Grey Mountain Primary School
Welcome to Grey Mountain Primary School
Welcome to a new school year!
The First Day of School is Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
School Growth Plan
-

Literacy
Literacy skills will improve, using the science of reading - a research based approach that explains how the brain learns to read.
GMP will follow the FNSB Literacy Strategic Plan consisting of 90 minutes of literacy and smaller-group intervention, as needed.
-

Numeracy
The main objective is to improve outcomes in Math. This means our students are engaged in their math lessons, both inside and outside of the classroom, and they can reach their learning goals.
-

Whole child
We situate the whole child as the foundation for our work as a school. A developmentally responsive approach is used in our interactions with each other. We value the whole child, and their family; their social, emotional, spiritual, academic and physical self. We honour children and their families and strive to ensure that we build community in our context. We value an understanding of our positionality within the school context, and in relationship to the land. Through reflective conversations, educators examine what they are bringing into interactions with students, and how this impacts their ability to respond to students’ needs.
-

Land & Language
We are working in collaboration with FNSB to include a First Nations worldview for all Learners. This will include prioritizing Southern Tutchone, seeking partnership to build an outdoor learning space, and increasing engagement from families in school activities.

A word from our Principal
Welcome to the Grey Mountain Primary School website! Thanks for visiting.
The first day of school for GMP is Tuesday, August 25, 2026. This is a regular length school day, 8:30am - 3:00pm. Our Educators will be outside before the bell rings to greet families and take the children to their classroom at 8:30am.
School supplies are provided for each child. No need to buy any supplies such as crayons, scissors, pencils, etc.
Things to bring on the first day:
a backpack
indoor shoes that are suitable for gym time (sandals are not recommended)
a water bottle
a change of clothes (especially Kindergarten to Grade 2) for the inevitable spills that occur
Our school is nut free. Please do not send any foods that contain nuts or have labels that say may contain nuts.
The parking lot is for staff only. We recognize that the parent parking situation is a challenge at times. Student safety is our top priority - we would not want any child injured with vehicles coming and going in that small space. If you are walking with your child, please use the sidewalks and avoid walking through the parking lot “short cut”.
We are proud to be a primary school, specializing in Kindergarten through Grade 3 activities focusing on foundational literacy and numeracy principles. Our school motto, "Respect, Responsibility and Reaching for Our Best" reflects who we are. Students and staff are always encouraged and expected to treat each other with respect. Together we are growing and learning and reaching for our best.
Here at Grey Mountain Primary School, students enjoy a balanced curriculum which includes land-based activities, academics, structured literacy and numeracy based on the Science of Learning, arts, physical education and personal/social development. Students are supported in their learning through caring educators.
We are excited to welcome our Learners and Families to a new school year!

Grey Mountain Primary sings - We Are A Circle!
Watch and listen here!
Lyrics:
We are a circle, all connected
To each other, on this land
We are Grey Mountain; We’re the Yukon River
With every creature; Hand in hand
Ta’an Kwach’an Council; Kwanlin Dun First Nation
We say Thank You; You share your land
Shä̀w níthän and Kwä̀nä̀schis (3 times)
We are a circle (3 times)
